My boyfriend refers to his ex by her first name and not “my ex”. Is this a red flag or am I overreacting?

BABS:

Reader, I’m going to be honest with you- I would not enjoy this. Their ex’s name needs to be redacted unless you use it first. Tell your boyfriend to just follow your lead and to dance around their name unless otherwise mentioned. He can use gender neutral pronouns, vague descriptions & keep it pushing. 

Is being a single man and having a cat or dog an ick?

BABS:

Unfortunately this is not as black and white as being a straight man who knows his birth time (ran through) or chasing a ping pong (pathetic). Getting an animal is not an ick as long as it doesn’t seem like you got it to attract more girls aka: monster masking as a normal human behavior). If you genuinely love your little buddy, it is not an ick! 

Follow their Instagram after the first date. Yay or nay?

I would let that happen in person during a future date! Maybe you mention something you’ve posted & it comes up naturally that you don’t already follow each other. It’s much easier to read body language in person so if they seem hesitant, you can backtrack a bit. But big picture, nothing you do can ick out someone who truly likes you. Which sounds like a platitude but ol Barbara over here has accidentally tweeted about hooking up with someone (full god given names used) and that person still dated me! 

Is it wrong to hook up with someone in exchange for them doing your taxes? 

BABS:

These are the oldest professions in the world participating in the oldest barter in the world! People hook up with others for way less than some free tax services. Go crazy!
